Dion revealed in December 2022 that she’d been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome and would be postponing tour dates due to the condition. In May 2023, she canceled her remaining tour due to the disorder and shared that she was still being treated for it. 

Her health problems had previously forced her to announce tour date cancelations in January 2022 and April 2022.

Stiff person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder. Symptoms of the progressive condition may include stiff muscles in the torso, arms and legs, as well as muscle spasms that may be triggered by noises, touch or emotional distress, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Celine Dion's health has become a hot topic once again, as the pop icon made a comeback at the 2024 Grammy Awards, marking a rare public appearance since being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a neurological condition that triggers muscle stiffness and spasms.
Dion took the stage to present the highly coveted award of the evening, album of the year, during the ceremony held on Feb. 4. 
To everyone's surprise, she graced the audience with her presence and was guided to the microphone, where she delivered an emotionally charged speech about the profound impact of music.

"Thank you all, I love you right back,” she said as she received a standing ovation. “When I say, I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.”

“Those who have been blessed enough to be here, the Grammy Awards must never be taken for granted, the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world,” she added.

For the occasion, Dion sported a pale-pink gown with a mustard-colored coat from Valentino and a chic bob. Stylist Law Roach posted a video of the singer on Instagram at the event with the caption, "We’re BACK…… @celinedion."

Fans curious about Dion's health after her Grammys appearance will be able to get a deeper look at her symptoms and efforts to perform again with the upcoming release of a new documentary about the singer, “I Am: Celine Dion." (A date has yet to be announced.)

These past couple of years have been quite a rollercoaster for me, dealing with the ups and downs of my health condition. It has been a challenging journey, from the moment I discovered my diagnosis to learning how to navigate and live with it without letting it define me. But amidst it all, I have come to realize how much I have missed being on stage, connecting with my fans, and experiencing the magic of performing. 

During my absence, I made a decision to document this part of my life, to shed light on this lesser-known condition and offer support to others who may be going through a similar journey. This documentary is a heartfelt tribute to the power of music, capturing over a year of moments as I strive to live an honest and authentic life, even in the face of illness. It's an emotional, dynamic, and poetic testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.

Back in May 2023, I shared an update about my health and the unfortunate need to cancel the remaining shows of my tour. Managing my stiff person syndrome, especially in the context of performing, requires tremendous effort and dedication. But I want you to know that I am working tirelessly to regain my strength. Touring can be demanding even for those in optimal health, yet I am determined not to give up. 

I eagerly look forward to the day when I can once again take the stage and share unforgettable moments with all of you. Your support means the world to me, and I can't express enough how much I appreciate it. Cancelling was a huge letdown, but I remain hopeful and excited for the future. Thank you for standing by me, and I can't wait to see you again!
